Pandit Abhishek Adhikary is an outstanding Sitar virtuoso of the Senia- Rampur Maihar Gharana, presently living in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. He is a world class musician, an educator, mentor of Indian Classical music and composer. Pandit Adhikary have performed over 500 big festivals, classical music events across the globe and performed many major television and radio shows, like- Doordarshan Assam, DD7 West Bengal, Ariana Television, Khurshid TV, Tolo TV in Afghanistan, Mana TV in USA, LIVE in California TV, RTP Antenna2 in Portugal, National Radio Television ( RTA) Kabul, Afghanistan, PRAG News Assam, Akash Bangla in West Bengal.
He has received his intense sitar lessons from Pandit Deepak Chowdhury and Prof. Sukumar Chandra, the disciples of Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar. He has done his Master’s in Sitar from Rabindra Bharati University, West Bengal, India. By his birth lineage he belongs to the eighth generation in Indian Classical music. His ancestors are Pandit Haricharan Das Swami, Ostad Bhaganadas Sitari, Pandit Manmohan Sitari who were well known Surbahar, Sitar and Rudra Veena exponents of their time.
During the performances of Abhishek, he always maintains the purity of traditional Raga Music. His soulful Sitar melody creates an aesthetic divine appeal among the listeners. His style of playing reflects spiritualism with dexterity. He has served the society not just through his music performances but also through teaching and spreading Hindustani Classical Music successfully to many students in different institutes, Universities and also his personal disciples in India and other countries. He has worked at Afghanistan National Institute of Music in Kabul, Afghanistan and Braga, Portugal for several years. There are many scholars who have received their extended music lessons under the training of Pandit Adhikary internationally. During his supervision in the Afghanistan National Institute of music, the institute was awarded by the prestigious Polar Music prize by the King of Sweden in 2018. The documentary films like- Channel 9-60 Minutes of Australia, The promotional video by Polar Prize team of Sweden or BBC Persian etc have shown Pandit Abhishek Adhikary and his wife Dr. Murchana Adhikary Barthakur’s contribution for spreading peace and love through their beautiful Sitar music for the society in the War zone like Afghanistan. Pandit Abhishek has been awarded from many organizations and institutes. He is a national scholarship holder from Government of India, has been awarded with Nikhil Banerjee and Nirod Baran prizes from Rabindra Bharati University, title ‘Surmani’ from Sur Sringer Samsad of Mumbai, Maharstra, ‘Surashri’ from Matri Udghatan Ashrama Patna, Bihar. Recently he has been awarded from N.E. Fest 2025 of Kharagpur IIT for his contributions worldwide.
